Nuclear Boost for Rail

Jobs in Cumbria given a boost by announcement, accountancy, finance and engineering vacancies could grow.

A new nuclear power station proposed for Kirksanton, near Millom, would not only develop jobs in cumbria but would be a boost for railway traffic, says Furness Line Action Group (Flag).  Nuclear stations have been proposed for the Layriggs site at Kirksanton and for Baystones near Egremont, as well as for a site next to Sellafield.

And in its latest magazine, Flag says “If one or more of these sites is eventually chosen, they are all ideally placed next to the Cumbrian Coast Railway, and present a massive opportunity to move construction materials, nuclear products and employees safely and conveniently by rail.”

“Investment must therefore be channelled into the rail link, removing any need whatsoever for expensive and environment destroying new roads or bridges.”
